Gunnvor Olsen & Frøydis Hansen – Another Romeo & Juliet story

The house of Olsen and Hansen are at Grünerløkka in Christiania. The year is 1970, and homosexuality is punished by death in Norway.

Gunnvor, of the house of Olsen, falls in love with Frøydis, of the house of Hansen, at a hippie gathering. And Frøydis returns her love. Frøydis’ best friend is an in-the-closet gay man, and he is very moved by their sudden love, so he decides to fight for homosexuality and his friends. He has been blessed by a hippie priest, to become a priest. Therefore he can marry them.

At the same night there is a rave-party and suddenly there is a fight, which Gunnvor tries to stop. But Tor Steinar, Gunnvors friend, gets killed by Frøydis’ cousin, Leif Kåre. Carried away with passion, Gunnvor kills Leif Kåre. She is banished from Grünerløkka.

The Hansen’s plans to marry Frøydis away to the rich gangster, Tor-Pedo, living just across the road. Frøydis, in great disgust, consults her best friend, the hippie priest. The priest gives her magical heroine to create an apparent death, she will then be taken to the tomb, and she will “wake up” after a while. She and Gunnvor can then run away together. He writes to Gunnvor, telling her about the plan, but the letter miscarries. Frøydis pretends to take the overdose, and is laid in the tomb as dead. The gangster, Tor-Pedo, comes by night to the tomb, to mourn over her there. Gunnvor, who has heard only that her love is dead, also comes to the tomb. The two lovers fight, and Gunnvor kills Tor-Pedo. She then drinks some pure ethanol, which she brought with her, and then dies instantly at Frøydis’ side.

The hippie priest enters to wake Frøydis, and she awakes to find her lover dead. The hippie priest leaves the tomb, and Frøydis shoots herself with Tor-Pedos gun, and dies.

The feud of the Olsen’s and the Hansen’s is brought to an end, and homosexual relationships are now accepted in Norwegian Society.
